Strengthening an existing connection - that was the idea behind a joint visit to Portugal by Prof. Dr Michael Schleicher, Vice-Rector of Wismar University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr Gunnar Prause, Director of the European Project Center and Dr Laima Gerlitz, Head of the European Project Center. The three representatives of Wismar University of Applied Sciences visited the Universidade Portucalense in Porto from 9 to 11 September. There had already been contact with the university in the past. The aim is now to establish joint projects. The representatives from Wismar were welcomed by Deputy Rector Elizabeth Real.
The university with its maritime location is of particular interest to the European Project Centre. ‘So far, we have had little to do with the Portuguese maritime region, although many of our research projects deal with the maritime economy. That's why we now want to intensify our contact,’ explains Dr Laima Gerlitz. In addition to meetings with scientists and a tour of various laboratories, the visit also included a visit to the cruise ship terminal in Porto. Among other things, a joint application for a project within Erasmus+ or Horizon Europe is now planned. A next meeting is scheduled for May 2025.
The Universidade teaches and conducts research in the fields of architecture, multimedia, engineering, economics and management, law, psychology, education and tourism. The private university has been in existence since 1986.
