Professor Lau was appointed on Friday, 24 January 2025, at the Ministry of Science for service at the state's universities - for the professorship "General Business Administration/Management". He had already held a deputy professorship in the field of management at Wismar University of Applied Sciences (UAS) since 1 September 2024.
Carsten Lau studied business administration at TU Dortmund University and graduated with a degree in business administration. He then completed his doctorate in mechanical engineering at the University of Magdeburg and was awarded the title of Dr.-Ing.
Dr Lau's professional career took him into the private sector, where he gained valuable experience and held management positions at renowned companies such as DaimlerCrysler, Airbus, E.ON and the MediaMarktSaturn retail chain. His activities focused on the development of new business models, the optimisation of business processes and the qualification of employees. He was also responsible for restructuring the holding company and consolidating international country holdings.
At the same time, he became involved in teaching early on, taking on teaching assignments at various German universities as early as 2000. From 2011 to 2018, he was a part-time professor at the SRH University of Applied Sciences in Hamm. He subsequently held teaching positions at TH Ingolstadt and SRH Heidelberg on the topics of digital business and strategic management.
At our UAS, Professor Lau would like to focus on the future challenges facing companies. This will focus on topics such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data and automation. They also include agile management methods that prepare companies for the constantly growing changes.
